General Path Flashcards
0
Q
At what temperature does circulatory arrest occur?
A
< 19
1
Q
How long does acute inflammation last?
A
Up to 3 days.
2
Q
What does hypothermia do to the oxygen dissociation curve?
A
Shifts oxygen dissociation curve to the left - so increases oxygen content of blood at a given temperature
3
Q
What is ischaemia?
A
Abnormal reduction in blood supply to a tissue
4
Q
What are the stages of ischaemia related cell injury?
A
- Decreased oxidative phosphorylation
- Decreased ATP synthesis
- Sodium/potassium channel is ATP dependent and subsequently fails
- The cell begins to swell as do mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum
- Protein synthesis fails
- Membrane damage
- Calcium influx in to cell
- Cell death
5
Q
SIRS
A
- Temp > 38 20 or pCO2 < 32mmHg (4.3kPa)
4. WCC >12 or 10% immature forms
