General info Flashcards
What is PARP
Poly-ADP ribose polymerase is an important protein in DNA repair pathways especially the base excision repair (BER). PARP inhibitors are used in cancer therapy to stop the repair in cancerous cells.
What are Polycomb-group proteins (PcG proteins)
Family of protein complexes first discovered in fruit flies that can remodel chromatin such that epigenetic silencing of genes takes place.
Describe the cerebral cortex
It is a six layer laminar structure that develops from a single layer of neuroepithelial cells and temporally regulated balance between progenitor proliferation and differentiation to produce neurons of each layer, followed by astrocytes and oligodendrocytes
How is the INO80 family implicated in NDD
SRCAP mutations have been linked as the cause of Floating Harber syndrome(hood et al)
Upon differentiation what happens to genes
Genes are heterochromatinized thus requiring regularly spaced nucleosomes for higher order compaction
