Gender - External Factors + Gender Differences in Achievement - Class, Gender and Ambition Flashcards
How might working class girls view their position?
Some working class girls continue to have gender-stereotyped aspirations for marriage and children, and expect to go into traditional low paid women’s work, because of their class.
What does Reay argue about class, gender and ambition?
Reay (1998) argues that girls changing ambitions reflects the reality of girls’ class position. Their limited aspirations reflect the limited job opportunities they percieve as being available to them.
What does Biggart find about working class views and their view of their position in society?
Biggart (2002) found that working class girls are more likely to face a precarious position in the labour market and to see motherhood as the only viable option for their futures.
They see less point in archieving in education.
