Gender and subject choice Flashcards
Norman
Early socialisation: From an early age girls and boys are dressed differently, given different toys and encouraged to take part in different activities
Kelly
Gendered subject image: Science was seen as a male subject because teachers and textbooks drew on male experiences, and boys were seen to dominate the lab and equipment
Paetcher
Peer pressure: Because sports is seen as male, girls that play sports have to cope with an image that defies the conventional female stereotype. Male students often label these students as “lesbian” or “butch”
