Male peer groups: Male peer groups produced a range of different class based identities. The working class “macho” lads labelled other working class boys that were hard working “dickhead achievers”. The middle class achievers tried to project an image of effortless achievement, and were called “real Englishmen”.
The male gaze: The way in which male pupils and teachers look girls up and down, seeing them as sexual objects and making judgements about their appearance. This makes girls feel pressure to conform to often unobtainable feminine ideals
