Thrombocytosis
Temporal artery biospy - may show skip lesions, intermittent inflammation
GCA Mx
High dose IV methylpregnisolone
Oral prednisolone
Tapering regimen
Bisphosphonate bone protection
PMR P
Inflammatory condition:
Muscular pain and stiffness in shoulder and pelvic girdle
PMA A
> 50

Bilateral shoulder or thigh muscle aching pain for > 1 month Morning stiffness Fever Weight loss GCA Malaise
PMA Ix
Raised CRP/ESR
Serum protein electrophoresis to exclude myeloma
TFT for thyroid disease
TAB if GCA
Mx
Oral prednisolone daily
Tapering regimen
Bisphosphonate
PPI
