Rosving Sign
RLQ pain with palpation of LLQ
Psoas Sign
RLQ pain with extension of the right hip
Obturator Sign
RLQ pain with internal and external rotation of flexed right leg
Kidney Tenderness
Left hand on pts back, under 12th rib pushing upwards
Right hand pushing down above
Ask pt to take a deep breath
Easily palpable / Tender Kidney = Abnormal
Costovertebral Angle (CVA) Tenderness
Place hand over the CVA (just below posterior 12th rib)
Thump first onto flat hand
If patient feels pain – likely Pyelonephritis
Murphy’s Sign
Place hand below right costal margin along mid-clavicular line
Ask patient to take deep breath in
If positive for cholecystitis patient will experience pain
Pinch Test for Peritonitis
Pinch fold of abdominal skin over ‘McBurney’s Point’ (2/3 of the way between umbilicus to hip bone)
Patient may experience increased pain when skin strikes Peritoneum
Blumberg Sign for Peritonitis
Apply pressure to area of lower abdomen using hand
Remove hand and ask if pain is worse after removing hand (rebound tenderness)
Possible peritonitis if yes
