Gaseous Exchange Flashcards
What is gas exchange
The movement of oxygen and carbon dioxide in and out of blood and cells
What is the transport system of oxygen and carbon dioxide
Blood capillaries. Oxygen moves from the alveoli to the blood
Where does oxygen and carbon dioxide go
Oxygenated blood leaves the lungs and go to the heart to pump to cells that use oxygen for respiration. Carbon dioxide is picked up by the blood and enters the lungs to be oxygenated and to get rid of carbon outside
How does oxygen and carbon dioxide get to the alveoli and the blood
By diffusion
Where does oxygenated blood receive oxygen
In the alveoli
How do you cells get oxygen
As blood circulates the cells absorb oxygen to use for respiration
How does carbon dioxide get to the blood
Carbon dioxide produced during respiration diffuses out into the blood to go to the lungs to get oxygenated
Where does the blood that leaves the tissues go?
It is deoxygenated and will return to the lungs to be oxygenated
