often players, coaches, officials are bribed into changing the course of an event in order to receive a cut of the winnings

when a player is involved in betting in a sport which is illegal according to NGB rules e.g. a boxer betting on himself to lose

carrying out a pre-determined action during a specific part of a sporting event in order to win a bet
e.g. no ball in 6th over, 5th ball

how is match-fixing destroying sport?
A
- negative impact on reputation of the sport
- fans disengagement from sport if they start to question the sporting endeavour of teams + athletes
- sponsorship deals likely to be terminated if a team, athlete, competition is involved in match fixing
- NGB’s can lose credibility if they are not able to deal with the issue
- loss of revenue can impact on all teams within a competition, even if only a small minority of teams were involved in match-fixing
