GALATIANS 5 Flashcards
for freedom’s sake
Christ has set us free
stand firm then
and do not be subjected (once) again
to a yoke of slavery
Look, I, Paul, am telling you
that if you are circumcised (retain passive sense, these people will become circumcised, they are not already circumcised)
then Christ will not be of use to you
and I testify again
to every man that is circumcised
that he is obligated to do the whole law
you who are justified by the law
(you have been) estranged from Christ
you are fallen away from grace/gift.
we are eagerly awaiting the hope of righteousness
through the Spirit, on the basis of faith
for in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision (lit. foreskin)
counts for anything
but faith working through love
you were progressing well
who kept you
[τῇ] ἀληθείᾳ μὴ πείθεσθαι;
from obeying the truth?
the persuasion does not come from the one who calls you
a small bit of yeast
leavens the whole batch of dough
I am confident about you in the Lord
that you will not think otherwise
but whoever it is who is troubling you
will carry the judgement
whoever he might be
and I, brothers, if I still preach circumcision
τί ἔτι διώκομαι;
then why am I still being persecuted?
in that case, the offence of the cross has been abolished
would that the agitators castrate themselves
For you are called for the purpose of freedom, brothers
only not freedom
as an opportunity for the flesh
but serve one another through love
for the whole law
has been fulfilled in/by one word
“you shall love
your neighbour
as yourself”
if, however, you bite and devour each other
then see that you are not consumed by one another
and I say, live by the Spirit
and you will not carry out
the longing/desire of the flesh
for the flesh lusts after
that which is contrary to the Spirit
and the Spirit that which is contrary to the flesh
for these things are antithetical/opposed to each other
in order that you might not do
whatever you want
if you are led by the Spirit
then you are not under law

that those people who practice such things
