  • false (lacks muscularis)
  • due to uncoordinated swallowing and failure of the cricopharyngeus muscle to relax
  • occus in weak triangel
  • symptoms: difficulty swallowing, halitosis, cough
  • dx via fluoroscopic barium esophagography

**do not perform endoscopy bc it can rupture
