Sarcopenia
Decr muscle mass/strength
Decline is slow unless illness or inactivity takes place
Muscle changes
Less type II fibers (fast twitch) = slower movements/rxn
Less motor units
Reduced muscle nutrients (carbs/protein)
Less firing of NMS
Apoptosis
breaking down of cells into particles = incr waste product
Hayflick Limit
limited ability to replicate cells anymore (limit of 50)
Sensory Changes
Vision- presbyopia (decr image focussing)
Hearing- presbycusis (decr high pitch detection)
- use a low tone when talking
Touch,pain,temp- hypothermia & heat stroke
- careful of hot & cold environments

Intense sustained drive to achieve (goals poorly defined)

Positive emotions, optimistic, relaxed

Cooperative & compliant with authority
