The consensus theory
Emphasise the idea that human societies work best when the members agree on fundamental principles of how society should be organised e.g. social solidarity /togetherness
Organic analogy
Seeing society as like a human body with different organs contributing to the whole like a human body
Value consensus
When most of the people in the society share some core values
Social solidarity
A feeling of belonging to a larger and shared community
Meritocracy
A social system in which people receive awards such as a promotion on the basis of merit and ability
Social mobility
The movement of individuals families household for other categories with people in the social strata
Stratification
A system of formation of layers, classes or categories.
Division of labour
Assignment of different parts of a manufacturing process or task to a different people in order to improve efficiency
Functional importance
Explains why society functions of the way it does by focusing the relationship between the various social institutions that make up society
