A
  • the mouth is the focus of pleasure - id
  • the id is in control
    -fixation occurs at this stage of a child is weaned too soon or is not weaned soon enough makes the adult gain pleasure from oral gratification

What is the anal stage

A
  • 1-3 years old or when potty training is completed
  • the focus for pleasure is the anus
  • if stage not resolved it will lead to anal character
  • anally retentive - very tidy, Likes order and being in control
  • anally expulsive - generous but disorganised doesn’t like to follow rules

What is the phallic stage

A

• occurs between the ages of 3-5 with superego
• The focus of pleasure and sexual energy is genitals
• Boys experience the Oedipus complex
• Boy takes on gender identity when they release they are male

• Sexual urges sublimated into sports and other hobbies
