Frans Questions Flashcards
Difference between a GT V scientist?
Scientific interpretation of what we’ve found - why have we got/found this, what is the underlying cause, what investigation do we need to do investigate the patient, have we done the correct test to answer the clinical question? What does it mean for family, future etc.
Also making sure tests fit for purpose and can answer the question.
Scientists - answer the clinical question, what investigation do we need to answer the question and what does the answer mean in relation to the question asked.
Technical can be very knowledgable too but more about physical processing of the samples, the practical application of science. Physical analysis of samples.
Trainee v registered scientist?
As a trainee I’m supervised and I’m guided by a training programme to make sure I meet and achieve certain standards required. Each section you’re on you’re always working towards the next case discussion or the next assessment.
A registered scientist is much less supervised with less guidance. Have to use your own initiative to maintain this standard e.g. keeping up to date with scientific development. Still have standards to maintain e.g. HCPC standards but it’s down to me to stick to them, won’t have a trainer chasing me up.
Trainees work is checked and auth by a registered scientist.
As a registered scientist you can authorise work out of the lab which goes straight to the clinician/patient. No safety net.
Managerial and supervisory responsibilities? - might be responsible for managing a small team, being responsible for overseeing training rather than just a small section of someone’s training6 that I have done in the past.
Trainee - rotate round sections to cover everything and don’t really get depth of experience. Looking forward to settling into a section for a longer period and building up that knowledge base that only experience on a section can give you e.g. work with a couple of band 7s who I can see are that step above me so the next step is to work towards that level.
But would still like to rotate to maintain skills, just less often.
Manager V Leader
Manager often put into a set position V leaders can be any level
Leaders have followers, they inspire people and help people see a vision.
