franks stress revision Flashcards
describe the inverted U graph
frowny face.
X1 = under arousal (attention field too broad, low energy, distracted).
X2 = over arousal (hypervigilence, high tension, aggressive).
X3 = optimum arousal (everything is ideal)
what are somatic and cognitive anxiety
body tension e.g. sweating.
mind tension e.g. negative thoughts
describe catastrophe theory model
performance goes up to optimum to A
then there is a sudden collapse due to high levels of cognitive and somatic anxiety B
then anxiety is still increasing but performance getting worse at a slower rate C
then cognitive anxiety reduces meaning performance gets better D
what is eustress and distress
stress seen as a positive thing (excitement)
stress seen as negative thing raising anxiety
what is trait and state anxiety
trait is natural levels of anxiety
state is anxiety due to the event
high trait usually means high state.
describe the 4 stage stress model
cause of stress
perception of stress (eustress…)
stress response (somatic…)
behaviour consequences (eustress…)
