pros are long term, not relying on others, always motivated
cons are harder for extroverted people

drive that comes from external source
pros are good for younger people or beginners
cons are not long term, can become worthless, relying always
ego orientated
motivated by winning, measure ability to opponents, externally referencing, can lead to higher levels of anxiety as can’t control standard.
task orientated
motivated by performance, self referencing, measure success against own self.
what is self determined theory
where activity is freely chosen by performer. good for motivation, anxiety, more enjoyment.

high achievers, 50/50 chance of winning, like challenge, maximise pride, likes feedback.

low achievers, 0 or 100 chance of winning, minimise shame, don’t like feedback, give up easily.
