What does PPE stand for?
Personal Protective Equipment.
What are the components of PPE?
Scrub suits, masks, eye protection, gowns, gloves, caps, beard covers, shoe covers.
What is the order for donning PPE?
From the bottom up: Gown, Mask, Goggles, Gloves.
What is the order for doffing PPE?
Alphabetically: Gloves, Goggles, Gown, Mask.
What are the normative ranges for adult heart rate?
60-100 bpm.
What is the normal temperature range?
96.8-99.3 degrees F.
What factors affect heart rate?
Age, sex, environmental temperature, infection, physical activity, emotional status, medications, cardiopulmonary disease, physical conditioning.
What is the normal respiratory rate for adults?
12-18 breaths/min.
What is medical asepsis?
Practices that help reduce the number and spread of microorganisms.
What is surgical asepsis?
Practices that render and keep objects and areas free of all microorganisms.
What is a nosocomial infection?
An infection originating in a hospital.
What is dependent or total assist?
Requires total physical assistance from one or more persons to accomplish the activity safely (0-24% of activity).
What is maximal assist?
Patient performs 25-49% of activity, assistance required to complete activity.
What is moderate assist?
Patient performs 50-74% of activity, assistance required to complete activity.
What is minimal assist?
Patient performs 75% or more of activity, assistance required to complete activity.
How do you measure seat height for a wheelchair?
Measure from the heel to the popliteal fold and add 2 inches for footrest clearance.
How do you measure seat depth for a wheelchair?
Measure from the posterior buttock to the posterior lower leg and subtract 2 inches.
What is the purpose of wheelchair cushions?
Improves pelvic position and relieves pressure.
What is a reasonable accommodation?
Making modifications at the job site/workplace that enable a person with disabilities to perform a specific job.
What are the minimum requirements for a ramp?
36 inches wide, with 1 inch of rise per 12 inches of run.
What is the minimum door width for wheelchair access?
32 inches minimum, 36 inches preferred.
How should a cane be fitted?
The top should align with the greater trochanter or ulnar styloid, and the elbow should be slightly flexed.
How do you fit axillary crutches?
2 inches below the axilla, 2 inches lateral, and 4-6 inches anterior to the foot.
