Formation of Nervous System Flashcards
The nervous systems develops into what three layers?
Ectoderm
Mesoderm
Endoderm
Sheets of cells line up along dorsum of embryo called?
Neuro plate
When neural plate begins to buckle =?
Neural folds
Neural groove
Neural folds enlarge until they contact each other and the neural groove becomes the?
Neural tube
-Nervous system is hollow
Cells off to the side separate from the neural tube and form peripheral structures called?
Neural nest cells
What is the neural tube?
CNS
- Motor efferents
- Voluntary and presynaptic autonomic
- Glial cells
Closure of the neural tube starts where?
In the cervical region, extends superiorly and inferiorly completing closure superiorly about 3 days prior to completing closure inferiorly.
Neural tube cranial end forms?
cerebrum, brainstem and cerebellum.
Adjacent mesoderm divides into?
Spherical cell clusters called somites
-This results in the spinal region being segmented.
This forms vertebrae, ribs and part of the skull (somite)
Sclerotome
This forms skeletal muscle (somite)
Myotome
This forms the dermis of the skin (somite)
Dermatome
What is the neural crest?
Most of the PNS, except voluntary motor efferents and presynaptic autonomic neurons
- Sensory nurons
- Postsynaptic autonomic neurons
- Part of adrenal gland and pancreas
