King Sebastian’s death - who was named King after him?
Had been tempted by a disputed succession for the Moroccan throne in 1577 and set sail in 1578. Him and numerous leading Portuguese nobles were killed. Cardinal Henry was crowned King in his stead as he had the strongest claim however he was 66 and unfit to rule.
Relations between Philip and Henry.
Henry was Philip’s uncle and supported his claim to the throne before his death in 1580.
