James lost faith in Walbeck and came to terms with H
The Truce of Ayton 1497 and led to a peace treaty in 1502. Sealed with marriage of James to Henry’s daughter Margaret
How did H deal with Spain
The most significant achievement of H’s foreign policy was the alliance pulled off with Spain in the Treaty Del Campo 1489
Henry’s heir Prince Arthur was to marry Ferdinand and Isabella’s youngest daughter Catharine of Aragon. This signifies that the Tudor dynasty was now recognised as an equal by one of the leading royal fams of Europe
This was a coup because H was a usurper to the throne who had now secured international recognition of his Kingship
How did H deal with Frnce?
Relations with France were harmonious, but France tried to annex Britainny
H announced his intention to claim the French crown
In 1492 he sent an army to seige Boulogne
Charles VIII did not want war and signed the Treaty of Etaples in 1492

1492 with France
Charles VIII promised not to aid English rebels esp Warbeck
Promised to pay Henry’s campaign costs and to pay an annual pension of 5K - 5% of Henry’s annual income
How did H deal with Brittany and Burgundy?
H supported their independence. Signed the Trety of Redon 1489
Could not prevent France from annexing Brittainy
Burgundy was the biggest threat as Edward IV’s sister Margaret was married to Burgundy’s ruler
Margaret supported the pretender Lambert Simnel in 1487 and Warbeck with finance and mercenary troops
Burgundy was a major trading partner with England as they supplied the cloth. Henry broke off trade because Margaret supported the other claimants
When Margaret died in 1503 Burgundy was no longer a threat.
