Forearm- Nerve Supply Flashcards
Median Nerve pathway in the forearm
In cubital fossa: courses medial to brachial art & biceps brachii tendon –> 2 heads of pronator teres
Enters wrist underneath flexor retinaculum (over carpal tunnel) - between palmaris longus & flexor carpi radialis
Enters hand through the carpal tunnel, underneath flexor retinaculum at the wrist.
Median nerve innervations
muscular branches –> superficial and intermediate layers of anterior forearm - except flexor carpi ulnaris
anterioir interosseous nerve –> deep layer ant compratment - except ulnat half of flexor digitorum profundus
before entering wrist:
Palmar cutaneous branch –> skin of central palm
Ulnar nerve course
posterioir to med epicondyle –> between heads of flexor carpi ulnaris
Over flexor digitorum profundus
at the wrist: enters through Guyon’s canal
Ulnar nerve innervations
Medial flexor digitorum profundus & flexor carpi ulnaris
Gives off palmar and cutaneous branches of the forearm & digital branches of the hand –> medial skin of the hand
Radial nerve course
enters cubital fossa between brachioradialis & brachialis - ant to lateral epicondyle –> branches into superficial and deep branch
Radial nerve innervation
B4 cubital fossa: post cutaneous nerve –> skin of post forearm to wrist
Posterior interosseous nerve - all post. forearm muscles
Superficial bracnh - cutaneous innervation of anatomical snuffbox, dorsal hand and fingers
