Q

What is a Newton meter?

A

Newton meters contain a spring connected to a metal hook. The spring stretches when a force is applied to the hook. The bigger the force applied, the longer the spring stretches and the bigger the reading.

15
Q

Give 2 examples of non contact forces.

A

Gravity and air magnetism

16
Q

Name the 2 types of drag force.

A

Water resistance and air resistance

17
Q

What is streamlining?

A

Streamline is making someone or something into the most slim way possible for e.g a cyclists tucks their arms in to go faster. And streamlining reduces air and water resistance.

18
Q

What is lubrication?

A

Using oil or grease for e.g when you oil the chain of your bike the surfaces move past each other more easily.

19
Q

What would you use to measure force?

A

A Newton meter

20
Q

What are the five different things that forces can make objects move?

A
  1. Speed up or start moving.
  2. Slow down or stop moving.
  3. Change direction.
  4. Turn.
  5. Change shape.
21
Q

What do balanced forces produce?

A

Not moving or moving at a constant speed.

22
Q

What do unbalanced forces do?

A

A car is speeding up or (accelerating).

23
Q

When does friction occur?

A

When two solid objects rub against each other.

24
Q

What are 3 good things about friction

A

1 friction allows the tyres on a bike to grip the roads surface.
2 It allows things to start and stop.
3 friction also let’s you grip your hands to the bike.

25
Q

Give 3 bad points of friction

A

1 it slows you down
2 limits top speed
3. Wastes energy

26
Q

What is the interaction force of friction?

A

Driving force

27
Q

What’s the interaction pair of gravity?

A

Reaction force

28
Q

What does equilibrium mean?

A

When forces are equal and opposite they are balenced

29
Q

What is weight measured in?

A

Newtons

30
Q

What is mass measured in?

A

Kg

31
Q

If you went to space would your mass chage?

A

No it always stays the same

32
Q

Does an object have the same mass wherever it goes?

A

Yes but the weight will change

33
Q

What is the weight and mass formula?

A

Weight=mass x gravity
