Q

What is the difference between mass and weight?

A

Mass is how much matter an object contains and is constant to whatever gravitational field. Weight changes depending on the gravitational field as it is the relationship between an object and earth.

Q

How should you draw arrows on force diagrams?

A

NO ARROWS FLOATING IN MID AIR! Length of arrow represents size of force, direction of arrow shows direction of force and labels show type of force.

Q

What do balanced forces do to an object?

Why?

A

An abject remains stationary when balanced because the forces cancel each other out if they are opposite.

E.g. push and pull cancel each other out

Q

What do unbalanced forces do to an object?

Why?

A

It causes object to change direction or speed because one force is greater than another.

E.g. If push is greater than friction, the object will be pushed.

Q

What is friction?

A

A force which arises between solid objects which are moving(or tending to move) against each other which opposes motion.

Q

When is friction useful?

A

Driving on a rainy day because without friction the car would slip on the road. Generally everything would slip without friction.

It’s useful when you want to go steadily or slow.

Q

When is friction not useful?

A

Fast- moving mechanics which need to be lubricated. It’s not useful when you want to go fast or avoid heat between objects.
