Electricity Flashcards
What is a current?
A current is the amount of electricity flowing in the circuit.
What is the unit for currents?
How is it measured?
Amps.
Using an ammeter.
What is the resistance of a circuit?
It is a way of saying how easy or difficult it is for electricity to flow.
High resistance = hard to flow = slow current
Low resistance = easy To flow = fast current
What is the job of a cell in a circuit?
A cell DOES NOT provide the electricity, it pushes the electrons around the circuit.
What are the main characteristics of series circuits?
If one bulb breaks, the others go of as well
The current is the same everywhere
If you put more bulbs in they will be dimmer.the resistance is higher.
The voltage from the cell is divided between the components.
What are the main characteristics of parallel circuits?
If one bulb breaks, the bulbs in the other branches stay on
The current splits up when it comes to a branch The current in all the branches add up to the current in the main part of a circuit
If you add more bulbs they stay bright. There are more ways for the electrons to move in a parallel circuit.
The voltage is the same across all branches in the circuit.
What is voltage?
The voltage pushes the electrons round the circuit and gives them energy. The cell provides voltage.
