What is food poisoning?
Food poisoning is an acute illness caused by eating foods that are contaminated by microorganisms or poisons.
What are the symptoms of food poisoning?
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea,high or low body temperature, headache, general aching of the body, weakness and lack of energy.

It irritates the lining of the gastrointestinal tract in the body.
It gets into the bloodstream and other organs of the body and cause damage.
How long do the symptoms take to show?
They can take from up to a few hours to a few days to appear. The illness can last for several days or a few weeks.
Who is food poisoning extremely dangerous for?
Babies and young children, pregnant women, elderly people, people with long term health illnesses.
Why do people get food poisoning?
More people eat food outside the house, which may not have been prepared hygienically.
Lack of knowledge on how to prepare, store and cook food.
Intensive farming of food which leads to diseases spreading easily in perishable foods such as poultry and seafood.

Store foods correctly, handle food hygienically, cook food properly and thoroughly, clean properly
