FOM Flashcards
What are required PA’s?
Impending T/O advisory,
“Flight Attendants should now be seated for T/O”
Seatbelt advisory when turning off seatbelt sign
Turning on seatbelt sign
Anticipated turbulence
Turbulence
10-15 min prior to descent
Cabin preparation for landing
Sterile FD = 2 chimes when descending thru 10,000’
AC stops short of Jetway
Reinforcing Seatbelt sign and movement when PAX are up.
3.100 pg. 11
Must an aircraft taxiing be stopped if a PAX is up and/or standing?
Pilots do not have to stop taxiing or reject a T/O or landing when a passenger has stood up. However, do not BEGIN taxiing if passengers are not in their seat.
3.100 pg. 14
How charged must an EFB be prior to reporting for duty?
80%
How charged must your EFB prior to beginning an approach?
20%
What’s the minimum width can a runway be for 737 operations?
100’
5.100 pg. 1
When are T/O’s and landing prohibited?
Takeoffs and landings are prohibited when any of the following exist:
*Steady state wind velocity > 50 kts
*Gust velocity > 20 kts
*Braking action NIL
*Contaminated runway results available
prepared surface width < 60 ft
*There’s no ability to back taxi if required
*Thunderstorm at or near the airport,
unless the runway and flight path are
clear of its effects and associated gust
front/windshear
*Moderate or greater freezing rain
*Heavy freezing drizzle
*Reported severe icing by a similar type or larger aircraft
NOTE: Weather observations reported by ATC/FSS personnel or other
designated weather observers, when available, will be used for current
conditions and supersede recorded reports (e.g., ATIS or METAR).
When flying with a FO who has not obtained 100 hours in aircraft type at Alaska, what landing restrictions exist? (unless paired with a check airman)
The Captain shall make all
landings when any of the following conditions apply:
*At special airports
*Contaminants on runway which could result in braking actions < GOOD
*Braking action is reported < GOOD
*The crosswind component > 15 kts
*Windshear reported in vicinity of airport
*Vis. at or < 3/4 sm or RVR is at < 4000
When shall an LTP be briefed?
A LTP shall be briefed anytime the Landing Distance Available (LDA) is less than
7000 ft or for any runway with less than GOOD braking action.
Is there any other way to figure an LTP without calculating it?
It is acceptable to use 1000 ft as the LTP in lieu of calculation.
Is there ever a time when a specific auto brake setting must be used?
When braking action is anticipated to be less than GOOD and the Landing Distance
Available (LDA) is less than 7000 ft, the maximum selectable autobrake setting
must be used if available.
When is the APU considered to have failed to start?
When the APU experiences 3 failed, consecutive starts
or
QRH procedures preclude subsequent start attempts
What is the requirement to disconnect the towbar and to taxi the aircraft after pushback?
Under no circumstances will the towbar be disconnected without confirming the aircraft brakes have been set. The aircraft will not be moved without a waveoff.
FOM 5.200 pg. 15
Can the APU ever be left on and unattended?
*If external power and/or air are not available, the APU may be left running
unattended for passenger comfort, or, in coordination with Maintenance, for
aircraft reliability (i.e., to prevent potable water/lavatory freezing when aircraft is
left unattended in freezing temperatures). No “face to face” hand-off is required.
*Ramp and Maintenance crews are trained to handle APU emergencies.
*Flight Crews inbound on the last flight of the day, or anticipating any
extended ground times (greater than 45 minutes with a crew change) should
coordinate with the inbound station on the use of the APU if external electric
power and/or air are not available.
*If in doubt, complete the SECURE checklist and shut down the APU prior to
leaving the aircraft.
FOM Section: 5.100 Page: 5
When is dual acknowledgement from both CA and FO required?
Runway crossing
Hold short
Line up and wait
Cleared for takeoff
Cleared to Land
(parking brake set)
Is maintenance action required after a towbar fails during pushback?
(Airbus/MAX)
If the towbar fails (including shear pin) or becomes detached during pushback, a Maintenance inspection of the nose gear area and a Maintenance Logbook entry shall be accomplished prior to departure.
(NG)
If the towbar becomes detached during pushback, no maintenance action is
required. If the towbar shear pin fails during pushback, the flight may be
continued with an “Information Only” logbook entry if a maintenance inspection is not needed. However, if aircraft damage is suspected by the Flight Crew or
reported by the pushback crew, enter a discrepancy in the logbook and contact
Maintenance.
