What does selecting a radio transmitter switch do?
Illuminates the selected switch and makes the selected transmitter active.
What is the purpose of the ALT-NORM switch on the ACP?
- In the NORM position, the ACP operates
normally. - In the ALT position, the ACP operates in the
degraded mode.
o In the degraded mode:
§ The CA can only transmit on VHF 1
§ The FO can only transmit on VHF2
§ The Observer can only transmit on VHF1
§ Receiver selectors are not functional
§ Speaker & speaker switch (knob) isn’t
available
§ Flight interphone and service interphone
is not available.
§ The control wheel PTT and ACP PTT are
not available in the intercom position.
§ The hand microphone is not available.
§ The volume is preset.
§ Audio warnings are NOT heard on the
audio system that is operating in the
degraded mode.
§ PA’s are not available (must use
dedicated handset).
o The mask and boom microphones can be
keyed with the control wheel PTT switch.
o ACP1 is limited to VHF1
o ACP2 is limited to VHF2
o ACP3 is limited to VHF1
What is the purpose of the VHF TEST switch?
When pressed, removes the automatic squelch feature, permitting reception of background noise and thereby testing receiver operation. It also improves the reception of weak signals.
What does the white offside tuning light indicate on the RTP?
- The Offside Tuning (white) light, when illuminated, indicates the radio normally associated with this panel is being tuned by another radio tuning panel, OR:
- the radio tuning panel is being used to tune a radio not normally associated with this radio tuning panel.
What is the indication of a radio failure?
FAIL FAIL displayed on the RTP indicates that the selected radio has failed.
What is the indication of an RTP failure?
PANEL FAIL displayed on the RTP indicates that the Radio Tuning Panel has failed.
Which switch is used to key transmission over the selected transmitter?
Any of the following:
o The R/C switch on the RTP,
o The PTT rocker switch on the yoke,
o The hand-held microphone,
o The glare-shield PTT switch.
What is the purpose of the PA hand mic on the aft electronics panel?
To prevent the pilot from being dumb.
What precautions (if any) should be taken when keying an HF radio on the ground?
- Insure that the aircraft is not being fueled,
and - Insure that no personnel are present at the
AFT Service door or the AFT entry door. - Transmissions are limited by regulation to
those necessary to check HF
communications capability.
How is an incoming SELCAL indicated?
An incoming SELCAL is indicated by a chime and illumination of the white call light on the ACP.
How are the MEDLINK headset jacks controlled?
Via the Flight Deck Observers audio control panel (ACP3)
What is the purpose of the service interphone switch on the aft overhead panel?
- Enables the aircrafts discreet interphone system used by maintenance.
- Jacks are located in the Wheel Well, in the APU compartment, and in the aft galley.
How are incoming calls from the passenger cabin handsets indicated?
Flight attendants call the flight deck using the Cabin Attendant Handset. Pushing 2 on the handset calls the flight deck, sounds a chime, and illuminates the CABIN CALL light on the ACP.
What does the GRD CALL switch do when pushed?
The GRD CALL switch sounds a horn in the nose wheel while the
switch is selected.
What does the ATTEND switch do when pushed?
When the pilots push the ATTEND switch a two-tone chime is sounded in the passenger cabin, and both pink master call lights are illuminated.
