Folliculogenesis Flashcards
1
Q
What are the function of Activin?
A
It stimulate synthesis and release of FSH from the posterior pituitary gland; and at the paracrine level stimulates expression of FSH receptors in immature follicles, stimulates proliferation of granulosa cells, increases FSH-dependent aromatase activity.

Q
What is the function of Follistatin?
A
Follistatin is an antagonist of Activin only expressed in antral follicles that will control the effects of Activin on granulosa cells and FSH stimulation. It is produced by granulosa and theca cells and regulates large amounts of free Follistatin are present in the follicular fluid.
