The process by which individuals are introduced to an overtly ideological message and belief system that encourages movement from moderate, main stream beliefs towards extreme views
But is of concern when individuals embrace or engage to violence or direct action as a means of promoting political ideological or religious extremism
What is violent extremism
Violent extremism is encouraging, condoning, justifying or supporting the commission of a violent act to achieve political ideological religious social or economic goals
Radicalization to violence
Radicalization to violence occurs when a person or group takes on extreme ideas and begins to think they should use violence to support or advance their ideas or beliefs

Currently, there are Neighbourhood Community Officers in 37 City of Toronto Neighbourhoods throughout all 16 police Divisions, with each NCO staying in the NCOP for a minimum of 4 years. The Neighbourhood Community Officer Program is corporately administered through the Community Partnership Engagement Unit.

The Toronto Police Service will be enhancing its Neighbourhood Community Officer Program (NCOP).
According to Toronto Police, “there are 44 Neighbourhood Community Officers – including four Sergeants – operating with enhancements in 41, 42, 11, and 22 Divisions. These enhancements will now be adopted by all remaining 83 Neighbourhood Community Officers, bringing the total to 127 NCOs, servicing 35 city of Toronto neighbourhoods.”
The program puts community at the heart of our work,” said Chief Sauders. “We know success here is about trust. It’s about building and keeping trust in our day-to-day policing.”
In its release, the Toronto Police Service added that Humber College Faculty of Community and Social Services Professor Doug Thomson said a new report on community and police perspectives about the program will be ready next year.
