What is Flumazenil a derivative of?
Imidazobenzodiazepine derivative
What is the MOA of Flumazenil?
Specific, Competitive Benzodiazepine antagonist with HIGH affinity for bnzo receptors
What is the DOA of Flumazenil?
30 - 60 minutes; may need to repeat/supplement
What is the initial IV dose of Flumazenil? Then what? Whats the max?
0.2 mg IV initial, WAIT 2 minutes; 0.1 mg IV subsequent doses at 60 sec intervals to max total 3 mg!
If you’ve given a few doses of Flumazenil and your patient still isnt awake, what should you be thinking?
its probably not a Benzo OD, its usually the gas!
What can Flumazenil be used for?
differential diagnosis of Coma- give up to 5
If given as an IV infusion, what is the dose of Flumazenil?
0.1 - 0.4 mg/hr (0.5 -1 mcg/kg/min)
What does Flumazenil do with regards to ventilation?
antagonizes depression of ventilation and sedtion
What is different about Flumazenil and its effects?
use in post op pts does not reveal an acute anxiety and neuroendocrine stress response
How is Flumazenil Metabolized and excreted?
Hepatic metabolism
Renal excretion
Are there active metabolites of Flumazenil?
