FLUID THERAPY Flashcards
What is total body water for term Infant
75-78% of total body weight
What is total body water for preterm Infant
90% of Total bodyweight
How much TBW does term Neonate lose in first 3-5dys of life
7-10% of total body weight
How much TBW does preterm Neonate lose in first 3-5dys of life
10-15% of total body weight
Characteristics of infantile body fluids balance
1) TBW
2) Electrolytes composition of body fluid
3) Water Metabolism
Degrees of Dehydration
1) Mild
2) Moderate
3) Severe
Types of dehydration
Isosmotic/ Isotonic
Hypotonic
Hyoerosmitic/ Hypertonic
What is isotonic dehydration
Equal loss of water and electrolytes eg acute GI fluid loss
What is hypotonic dehydration
Too much loss of electrolyte than water eg chronic GI fluid loss
What is hypertonic dehydration
Excess loss of water than electrolytes eg High grade fever
- leads to decrease in ICF
Types of solution in liquid therapy
1) Nonelectrolyte solution
2) Electrolytes solution
3) Mixed solution
How to calculate free water deficit (FWD)
FWD= TBW × {(measured Na ÷ normal Na) - 1}
Clinical manifestations of Dehydration
Sunken eyes
Lethargic
Sunken anterior fontanelle
Reduced skin turgor
No wet diaper>3hr
No tears when crying
Dry mucous membrane
Irritability & restlessness
