Fluid Mosaic model Flashcards
1
Q
What does phospholipids do?
A
Act as a battier to water soluble substances because it has non-polar tails so it is difficult for the polar molecules or ions to pass through them.
2
Q
What does Proteins do?
A
‘Float’ in the phospholipid sheet(like icebergs)
3
Q
What is the function of cholesterol?
A
Regulate the fluidity of membrane
4
Q
How about glycolipids and glycoproteins?
A
Stabilise membrane structure.
As receptor sites bind with particular substances such as hormones or neurotransmitter
5
Q
What does the fluidicity of the membrane is affected by?
A
-amount of unsaturated fatty acids present in bilayer, length, amount of cholesterol and temperatufe
