Flowcharts Flashcards
What is an input?
What you add to a process (information or materials).
What is an output?
The final outcome of the process.
What is the process?
What is done in the process - the steps involved.
What is feedback?
Information that informs the operator what is happening during the process.
Who is the operator?
The person controlling the process.
What is a flowchart?
A diagram that shows the process explaining inputs, processes and outputs.
What are operations?
Individual processes and functions
What is a feedback loop?
The part of a flowchart which shows the operator where to go back if necessary.
True or False? Everything that is made uses a linear way of working.
True
What is the shape for a terminal and when is it used?
A terminal is a rectangle with rounded edges (a cross between a rectangle and an oval). It is used at the start and end of a process and usually contains the word ‘start’ or ‘stop’.
What is the shape for a process? When is it used?
The shape for a process is a rectangle. It is used to say what you are doing.
What is the shape for a decision? When is it used?
The shape for a decision is a diamond. It is used when you have to make a description and usually makes up part of a feedback loop, eg. ‘printout ok?’
What is the shape for an input/output? When is this used?
The shape for an input/output is a parallelogram. It is used when you add (input) or remove (output) something.
What is the shape for adjust/preparation? When is this used?
The shape for an adjust/preparation is like a cross between a rectangle and a diamond eg. . It is used when you have to make an adjustment in the process, such as ‘adjust print settings’
