Q

What are the 3 functions of flouride

A

Stimulates osteoblast proliferation and mineral deposition in bone (children)

Aids in formation of dental enamels

Q

In what 3 ways does fluoride prevent dental caries?

A

–Increases resistance of enamel to acid attack (by buffering hydrogen ions)
–Promotes remineralization of incipient enamel lesions (from normal mastication of foods containing carbs)
–Inhibits bacterial enzymes such as enolase which leads to decreased acid production by bacteria
