Main components of FWS?

What is the function of the Flight Warning Computer?
Processes failure conditions and aircraft system data in to visual and aural alerts, procedures and memo and status messages
What warnings are not processed by the FWC?
Stall warning
GPWS
Wind shear warnings
What visual alerts are presented by the FWC?
MWL, MCL, and Autoland light.
Plus display on MFDU and local light
FWS: How are the aural alerts presented and what can they be?
Level 3 - repetitive 3 tone
Level 2 - 2 tone
Level 1 - 1 tone.
What is the function of the SAP?
Standby Annunciator Panel - Provides a backup in case of complete FWC failure.
Define Level 3 Alert
Requires immediate corrective or compensatory action by the pilot
Define Level 2 Alert
Requires immediate pilot awareness and subsequent corrective or compensatory action
Define Level 1 Alert
Require pilot awareness (which may require action)
FMS: How are visual alerts cancelled?
By pressing MWL or MCL
FMS: Which level 3 annunciations are not cancelled in the normal way?
LDG gear not down with flap >23 degrees
Unsafe Take off configuration
What is the function of the auto land caution lights?
To tell us a failure during and involving an automatic landing
When are local lights cancelled?
When procedure on MFDU or QRH tells us to.
Which light cannot be dimmed by the brightness selector?
MWL, MCL and autoland
Any new Level 3 or 2 alert until pressed.
On which display units is FWC information displayed on?
MFDS/MFDU
FWS: What happens if a display unit fails?
Remaining MFDU reverts to Primary page
In what priority and color are alert messages presented?
Alert 3 (Red) Alert 2 (Amber) Alert 1 (Amber) Alert 0/Memos (Blue)
FWS: What indication is there that there are more then 11 messages and how do you handle the situation?
There will be 11 items plus Page 1
Can get to next page by pressing CNL to remove AMBER messages. Then RCL as required.
What color are memo messages and when may they be displayed?
Blue and displayed if room permits.
FWS: Where are the procedures presented and when?
Secondary page. If room permits max 2 will appear. Will appear automatically as per priority order on primary page.
When and where are status messages displayed?
Secondary page when pressing STS. Will display automatically on the ground with park brake set or both engines are out. The existence of STS messages depend on the actual flight phase.
Is the FWC operative in a battery power only situation?
No
What can the SAP provide?
Backup system to FWS. Provides basic red and amber lights only. Only stall and over speed aural tone and no master or local lights.
When can you do a FWS test and what does it consist of?
On ground only. Press WARN SYS roughly 30secs Completion of test is with a chime If fault, TEST remains on If no fault shows CMPL Normal operation is resumed 30seconds after.
