Flight Planning & Preparation Flashcards
What is required under PArt 91 for preflight relevant information? (8)
- Met
- Fuel
- Alternates
- Traffic delays
- Status of comm/nav facilities
- Conditions of aerodromes and runway lengths
- Take off and landing distance data in AFM
- In case of multi engine - engine inop procedures and performance data
When must nominate an alternate?
- 1hr either side
- Less than 1000ft above published minima in approach likely to be used
- Below 5km vis or 2km more than prescribed minima whichever is greater
Part 121 & 125 IFR departure alternate criteria when weather above IFR take off minima but below landing minima? (2) Big difference between 121 & 125?
- twin engine = one hour flying time still air one engine inop
- three or more engine = two hours flying time still air one engine inop
- Part 125 must be multi-engine aircraft
IFR alternate needs what weather? (3)
- Published alternate minima
- Precision approach - ceiling 600ft or 200ft above MDA/DA, and vis 3000m or 1000m more than prescribed minima
- Non-Precision approach - ceiling 800ft or 200ft above MDA/DA, and vis 4000m or 1500m more than prescribed minima
What aerodrome equipment requires secondary power to be used as an IFR alternate?
- ground based NAVAIDS necessary for the instrument approach
- aerodrome lighting for night ops
If not published what is IFR take off minima?
- 300ft and 1500m
What is MDA referenced to?
- Height above AD ELEV or TH ELEV if it is more than 7ft below AD ELEV
Part 91 Fuel reserve required for IFR turbine when alternate required and not required?
Turbine - no alternate = 30min @ 1500ft
Turbine - alternate = fly to alternate then 30min @ 1500ft
Part 91 Fuel reserve required for IFR non-turbine when alternate required and not required?
Non-Turbine - no alternate = 45min @ 1500ft
Non-Turbine - alternate = fly to alternate then 45min @ 1500ft
Part 121/125 air operationwho must ensure a flight plan is prepared?
- The holder of the certificate
Can the holder of the AOC file a flight plan for Part 121/125?
- Yes, but the PIC must be informed of the contents
When is Part 125 not needed to file a flight plan VFR?
- If depart and arrive same aerodrome and within 25nm but must be covered under a flight following service
Min notification lead time for filing IFR plan?
- 30min
PIC must adhere to flight plan unless?
- request for change and clearance by ATC
- emergency and notify ATS as soon as practical
Inadvertent departure from current flight plan must notify ATS when what deviations? (3 - track, speed, ETA)
- Any deviation from track
- variation of more than 5% of TAS or +/- 0.01 Mach
- ETA difference of more than 2min
