Flight Controls Flashcards
Can elevator, aileron or rudder trim be used with autopilot engaged?
No
Do all flight controls have manual reversion?
No
Where are the primary flight control positions shown?
Status page of EICAS
Where is rudder trim indicated?
Aft part of the aisle stand
What does the rudder trim indicator represent?
The neutral position of the rudder
Do rudder trim inputs physically reposition the rudder pedals?
Yes
With a single autopilot engaged, what will happen if pitch trim switch is actuated?
Autopilot will disengage
The right Yaw Damper requires input from what system?
An IRS and the left hydraulic system
When will the RAT automatically deploy?
Dual engine failure above 80kts
Can the RAT be retracted in flight?
No
What is the slowest speed that the RAT can provide power to the flight controls?
130kts
What are the functions of the dual aileron trim switches?
One switch arms the trim systems, the other switch signals the operation in the desired direction
Where is aileron trim indicator located?
Pilot’s control column on control wheel
How many degrees of bank are the flap maneuvering speeds based on before initial buffet?
40 degrees of bank
What conditions are required for automatic spoiler extension when it is armed?
Both truck tilt sensors indicate on ground & both thrust levers at idle
What is the function of the flap load relief system?
If placarded flap speed is exceeded with flaps in 25 or 30 the flaps will automatically retract to 20 degrees
Which hydraulically powered rudder actuator is automatically depressurized when the RUDDER RATIO light is illuminated?
Left
What does the STAB TRIM light during trimming indicate?
Stabilizer trim is moving at half the normal rate
If speed brake lever is not armed, will the spoilers deploy upon landing?
Not automatically, but they will deploy when thrust reverse is actuated
Which hydraulic system powers stabilizer trim?`
Left and center
Which hydraulic system operates the flaps
Center
What may be indicated when the “AILERON LOCKOUT” light comes on at high speed?
One or both of the outboard ailerons failed to lockout
Why should the speedbrake lever be moved from ARMED to DOWN detent if the AUTO SPDBRK light illuminates?
To prevent inadvertent speedbrake extension in flight
With the AUTO SPDBRK light illuminated can the speedbrakes be operated manually?
Yes
What is the function of the rudder ratio system?
Decreases maximum rudder pedal input from the pilot to reduce rudder deflection as airspeed increases
Which hydraulically powered rudder actuator is automatically depressurized when the RUDDER RATIO light is illuminated?
Left
What is indicated by an illuminated SPOILERS light and SPOILERS on EICAS
One or more spoiler panel has failed to operate
Which hydraulic systems power the left and right yaw damper respectively?
Center and left
What action can be taken to possibly regain full stabilizer trim rate when the STAB TRIM light is illuminated?
Alternate stabilizer trim
What systems must be available to the yaw dampers to pass a yaw damper test?
One aligned IRS and hydraulic power for the system tested
During normal operation, at what flap oisition do the leading edge slats extend to the landing position
25
What does UNSCHED STAB TRIM indicate?
Stabilizer movement without a trim signal
If the stabilizer moves in the opposite direction as commanded by the autopilot will the UNSCHED STAB TRIM light illuminate?
Yes
The loss of which hydraulic system prevents auto speedbrake deployment?
Center
Hydraulic power for the elevators is provided by which hydraulic system?
Left, center and right systems
What overrides all other stabilizer trim system inputs?
Alternate stabilizer trim switches
What is the stabilizer trim rate during autopilot operation?
Half the electric trim rate
How can stabilizer movement be stopped?
Move the control column in the opposing trim direction
What does the rudder ratio light illuminated inflight mean?
Control inputs to the rudder are not being correctly modified
What is indicated when the right yaw damper switch has an ON indication and the INOP light is illuminated?
A fault exists in the system
What is indicated by the AUTO SPDBRK light when the system is armed?
A fault exists which may cause inflight extenstion
How are the flaps operated after a failure of center hydraulic system?
The alternate flap system operates via electric motors
What is significant to note about the alternate flap system?
Takes four times longer than normal. About 2mins to go from flaps UP to flaps 20. Alternate Flap positions of 25 and 30 are not used because it would take too long in the event of go-around
Is flap load relief available with alternate flaps?
No
