How many groups of LE flaps are there? How are they normally powered?
-3 groups: Inborad, Midspan, Outboard
-Normally pneumatically powered from the bleed duct
What are the 2 groups of TE flaps and how are they normally powered?
-Inboard and Outboard
-Inboard: Hyd System 1
Outboard: Hyd system 4
Is there asymmetry protection in alternate flap mode?
No. No protection provided by the FCU in alternate mode
How are the TE flaps driven in primary mode?
Hydraulically
How long does the flap indication display on EICAS after flaps are UP?
10 seconds
What protections do FCU provide TE flaps in Primary Mode?
-Asymmetry
-Flap Load Relief
-Flap position indication to EICAS/Other systems
What is the maximum flap extension in alternate mode?

How does alternate flaps control work?
-Bypasses FCU’s
-Can be manually selected
-All flaps extend/retract electrically
*No asymmetry protection in alternate mode
What happens if a primary control failure of inboard or mid span LE flap group?
Both groups switch to Secondary mode
-8 To improve performance and reduce noise, outboard ailerons deflect down at which flap setting?
Return to natural and which flap setting?

-10 or 20

What is the effect on flap system during thrust reverse operation?
Inboard and Midspan LE flaps auto retract
What surface component is moved when stabilizer trim inputs are made?
LE of the movable horizontal stabilizer. Stab trim varies the incidence of the movable horizontal stabilizer.
What system assists -8 in pitch stability and landing flare?
Pitch Augmented Control System (PACS)
During landing flare, this system provides a small amount of up elevator as the airplane approaches the runway, without moving the control column.
When does -8 takeoff and landing tail strike protection activate?
-PACS senses imminent tail strike
Decreasing elevator deflection
(Doesn’t move the control column)
