Flight controls Flashcards
Flight control switches STBY RUD / OFF and ON - What do they mean?
STBY RUD - Activates standby hydraulic system pump and opens standby rudder power control unit
OFF - Closes flight control SOV, isolating ailerons, elevators and rudder from associated hydraulic system pressure
ON - Guarded position (Normal)
STANDBY HYDRAULIC LOW PRESSURE light is illuminated when?
Output pressure of the standby pump is low - Only armed when standby pump has been selected or automatic standby function is activated
ALTERNATE FLAPS is the ARM position?
Closes the TE flap bypass valve, activates standby pump and arms the ALTERNATE FLAPS position switch
OFF (Guarded) is the normal position
FEEL DIFF PRESS light?
Armed with flaps up or down and indicates excessive differential pressure in the elevator feel computer
Stabiliser Trim Override Switch?
Bypasses the control column actuated stabiliser trim cutout switches to restore power to the STAB Trim Switches.
Rudder pedals permit how much nose gear deflection for steering?
7 degrees either side of centre
SPEED BRAKE DO NOT ARM Light functions when?
Indicates an abnormal condition or test inputs to the automatic speed brake system or during landing indicates wheel speed has dropped below 60kts and the Speedbrake lever is not in the down position
SPEEDBRAKES EXTENDED light (Amber) ?
Illuminates in flight if the lever is beyond armed and the TE flaps are more than 10 or RA less than 800’
On the ground - If lever is in the down detent and ground spoilers are not stowed.
On the ground the SPEEDBRAKE EXTENDED light does not illuminate if the system A pressure is less than ??? PSI
750PSI
If the Ailerons becomes jammed, who’s Control wheel can be used to affect a roll?
The FO’s using the spoilers.
How much displacement in needed by the control wheel to cause the flight spoilers to assist?
10 degrees
Above what speed is Mach Trim automatically available?
Mach .615
How many trim motors control the horizontal stabiliser?
1 DC motor powered by AC transfer bus 2
What are the conditions for operation of the Speed Trim System?
110KIAS - Mach .60 / 10 Seconds after T/O / 5 Seconds following release of trim switches.
How does the Stall identification system essentially work?
Reduces yaw damper movement, increases system A pressure to the feel and entering unit to double control forces and as speed decreases towards stall speed it trims nose down and enables speed trim above stick shaker AoA
True or False?
Above 135kts both system A and B pressure are each reduced within the main PCU by approximately 25% each.
True
When does the Standby rudder automatically start?
The Force Fight Monitor (FFM) detects opposing pressure between A and B actuators
True or False:
A lever stop prevents the Speedbrake lever being moved beyond the flight detent in flight with the flaps up.
True
When will the Speedbrakes operate with the SPEEDBRAKE LEVER in the DOWN position?
During Landing or RTO with speed of more than 60kts, thrust levers in Idle and Reverse thrust active
True or False:
SFP performance aircraft is available for flap 30 and 40?
False - On SFP aircraft it is available at 10,15,25,30 and 40
Flap Load Relief: Flaps set at 40, retract to 30 if speed exceeds what speed?
163kts
Flap Load Relief: Flaps set at 30, retract to 25 if speed exceeds what speed?
176kts
During High AoA as the aircraft approaches the stall angle, the slats automatically begin driving to the full extended position, at what flap settings?
1 - 5
Leading edge uncommanded motion is detected when?
Two LE faps move on one wing or two or more slats move on one wing.
Trailing edge Un-commanded motion is detected when?
TE Flaps move away from commanded position or continue to move after reaching commanded position or they move in an opposite direction.
The leading edge slats are fully extended above what flap setting?
Flap 5 - The LE FLAPS are extended when the flaps are not up.
