Flexors and Pronators of the antebrachium and manus Flashcards
Flexor Carpi radialis m.
origin: medial epicondyle of the humerus and medial border of the radius
insertion: palmar side of the base of MC 2 & 3
innervation: median nerve
action: flexion of the carpus
Superficial digital flexor m.
origin: medial epicondyle of the humerus
insertion: palmar surface of the proximal end of middle phalanges of digits 2-5
innervation: median n.
action: flexion of the carpus, flexion of the metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal joints of digits 2-5
Flexor Carpi ulnaris m.
origin:
ulnar head - caudal border and medial surface of the olecranon (lateral surface of the olecranon in a cat)
humeral head - medial epicondyle of the humerus
insertion: accessory carpal bone
Innervation: ulnar n.
action: flexion of the carpus
deep digital flexor m.
origin:
humeral head (2)- medial epicondyle of the humerus
ulnar head (1) - proximal three-fourths of the caudal border of the ulna
radial head (3)- middle third of the medial border of the radius
insertion: palmar surface of distal phalanx of digits 1-5
Innervation: median and ulnar nerve
action: flexion of the carpus, flexion of metacarpophalangeal and proximal and distal interphalangeal joints of digits 1-5
interossei mm.
FOUR MUSCLES
origin: base of metacarpals 2-5 and carpal joint capsule
insertion: base of proximal phalanges, proximal palmar sesamoid bones, common digital extensor tendon via the extensor
innervation: ulnar n.
action: flexion of metacarpophalangeal joints 2-5, stabilization of metacarpophalangeal joints 2-5 during weight bearing
pronator teres m.
origin: medial epicondyle of the humerus
insertion: medial border of the radius between the proximal and middle thirds
innervation: median n.
action: pronation of the antebrachium, flexion of the elbow
pronator quadratus m.
attachment, apposed surfaces of radius and ulna
innervation: median n.
action: pronation of the antebrachium
