Q

How many flap control units are there and what are their purpose?

A

3- sequencing and monitoring of flap operation- primary control, secondary control indication and annunciation- TE flap asymmetry protection in primary and secondary modes- flap load relief in primary mode only- flap position information to EICAS and other systems

Q

What is the difference between the alternate flap mode of operation and the secondary flap mode of operation?

A

while electric motors are used in both modes, the sequencing is different- in the alternate mode LE and TE extend together - in secondary mode, inboard and midspan LE extend when flap lever is set at flaps 1, the outboard LE extend when flap lever set at flaps 5
