What did it do?
A
Prevent the Prime minister from dissolving parliament unilaterally via the royal prerogative in order to call an early election. Normally the queen was obliged to do so via convention.

Either lose a vote of no confidence twice in two weeks,
or
Have 2/3 MP’s vote for an early election (what Theresa may did)
