Five Kingdoms characteristics Flashcards
What is the cellular organisation in prokaryotaes?
They have no nucleus, instead they have circular DNA in the cytoplasm and no membrane bound organelles
What are the five kingdoms?
Prokaryotae Protocista Fungi Plantae Animalia
What is the cellular organisation in protoctistas?
They are eukaryotes and so therefore have some membrane bound organelles and linear DNA
What is the cellular organisation in fungi?
They are eukaryotes and have a cytoplasm
What is the cellular organisation in plantae?
They are eukaryotes and multicellular. They have a large permanent vacuole.
What is the cellular organisation in Animalia?
They are eukaryotic and are multicellular. Usually mobile, have small temporary vacuoles/vesicles and have invertebrate and vertebrate groups.
What is the cell wall made of in prokaryotaes?
protein
What is the cell wall made of in protoctistas?
Varied, may not be present. It is cellulose in algae.
What is the cell wall made of in fungi?
Made of chitin
What is the cell wall made of in plantae?
Made of cellulose
What is the cell wall made of in animalia?
no cell wall
What nutrition is needed in prokaryotaes?
They are heterotrophic - consume and digest organic matter
How is nutrition obtained in protoctistas?
They are heterotrophic or autotrophic (photosynthesis)
How is nutrition obtained in fungi?
They are all heterotrophic as they eat dead matter (decompers)
How is nutrition obtained in plantae?
They are photoautotrophic (photosynthesis)
