Fitness Testing Flashcards
What is the correlation between fitness testing and training programs?
Fitness testing plays a vital role in any training program
What is fitness testing used for?
Determining fitness component strength and weakness, establishing a baseline, improving motivation and predicting athlete potential
What are the four key protocols of fitness testing?
Validity, reliability, accuracy and informed consent
What does validity mean?
Fitness tests must measure what they claim to be measuring
What does reliability mean?
Fitness Tess must be able to be performed repeatedly at any location, and the same results obtained
What does accuracy mean?
The equipment must be regularly calibrated and there must be strict procedures adhered to
What does informed consent aim to do ?
Minimise the risk of harm to both the participant and test administrator
What are the advantages of maximal fitness testing?
It is the most accurate measure, there is a full recovery between tests and it is individualised
What are the disadvantages of maximal fitness testing?
It is exhausting, requires a large amount of time and requires a high level of motivation
What are the advantages of sub-maximal fitness testing?
It is easy to administer, requires minimal equipment, has a quick recovery time and can be undertaken more than once per session
What are the disadvantages of sub-maximal fitness testing?
It is usually indirect, there is a greater chance of inaccurate results and fewer reliable norms are available
What are some examples of fitness tests for aerobic power?
Cooper’s 12 minute run or beep test
What are some examples of fitness tests for anaerobic capacity?
300-metre shuttle run or phosphate recovery test
What are some examples of fitness tests for muscular strength?
!RM bench press or 1RM leg press
What are some examples of fitness tests for muscular endurance?
Timed push-ups or fixed-arm hang test
