Fitness Components Part 3 Flashcards
What is speed?
The ability to move the whole body, or body parts, from one place to another in the shortest possible time
What are some factors which affect speed?
Reaction time, range of motion, fibre type
How do fast twitch fibres affect speed?
Fast twitch fibres generate greater speeds than slow twitch fibres
How does range of motion affect speed?
The greater the range of motion, the quicker movements can occur
What is agility?
A rapid, whole body movement with change in velocity or direction in response to a stimulus
What are some factors which affect agility?
Reaction time, centre of gravity, range of motion
How does reaction time affect agility?
Faster reaction times contribute to quicker movements and agility
How does centre of gravity affect agility?
People with a lower centre of gravity tend to be more agile
What is coordination?
The ability to use the body’s senses to execute motor skills smoothly and accurately
What are some factors which affect coordination?
Sequencing of movements, stage of learning and practice
How does sequencing of movements affect coordination?
The more sequences to a movement, the higher level of coordination required
How does practice affect coordination?
The more practice you have, the more coordinated you will become
What is balance?
The ability to maintain equilibrium whilst stationary or moving
What are some factors which affect balance?
Base of support, centre of gravity, core stability
How does core stability affect balance?
Greater core stability leads to improved balance
