Fish,biomes And Endo/ectotherms Flashcards
What is ectotherm and example of ectothermic animals?
Ectothermic are animals like reptiles that can not regulate their body temperature .
What are endotherm and examples of endothermic animals?
Endothermic are animals who are able to regulate their body temperature like mammals, birds and some fish.
What factors effect operative temperature?
air velocity, relative humidity and the uniformity of conditions, as well as personal factors such as clothing, metabolic heat, acclimatisation, state of health, expectations, and even access to food and drink.
What is biodiversity?
The community of different living species.
What is sampling?
When scientists look at part of a population to draw conclusions about the whole.
What are some methods of ecological sampling?
Random sampling.
Stratified sampling.
Systematic sampling.
What is random sampling?
Is a sample that is unbiased and Within each area, every part of the area must have an equal chance of being chosen.
What is stratified sampling?
is where a proportionate number of observations is taken from each part of the population. Divide a habitat into zones which appear different and take samples from each zone.
What is systematic sampling?
sample units are selected according to a predetermined methodical pattern, which ensures that each unit of the sample represents an equal portion of the whole population.
What is dichotomous key?
A dichotomous key is a tool that helps to identify an unknown organism
What is a biome?
A biome is a area of the planet that shares similar conditions of climate, fauna and flora.
What is a ecosystem?
A system composed of living organisms and interactions with environment surrounding them.
What is a habitat?
An environment that present perfect conditions for a population or species to live.
