Q

Why are covalent and ionic bonds stronger than other types of chemical bonds (dipolar, H-bonds, Van der Waals)?

A

Ionic and Covalent bonds involve the complete transfer or or sharing of electrons. This is called electrostatic attraction in which positive and negative charges directly interact with each other.

Q

define H-bond

A

a specific type of dipole interaction that occurs between a molecule that has a H and electronegative atom and another molecule with a electronegative atom that has a lone pair of electrons

Q

when are small attractive forces higher?

A

when densities are higher (higher mass to volume aka. more molecules within a space) so that molecules are more likely to interact with each other
