Prohibited Weapon

2 parts
Includes:
1 - A knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force OR by hand pressure applied to a button/spring or other device attached to the handle of the knife
2 - Any weapon other than firearm that is prescribed to be a prohibited weapon EX - throwing star/numb chucks
Firearm - DEFN
4 Parts
1 - A barrelled weapon
2 - Which any shot/projectile/bullet can be discharged
3 - Capable of cause SBH or Death
4 - Includes any frame or receiver that can be adapted for use as firearm ex- cell phone, flare gun
Prohibited Firearm (3)
1 - Handgun - 4 inch or less barrel, discharges a 25 or 32 calibre bullet
2 - Altered Firearm - adapted rifle/shotgun by sawing/cutting or other altercation that makes it less than 26 inches long OR is greater then 26 inches but the barrel is less then 18 inches
3 - Automatic Weapons - all automatic firearms, whether or not it has been altered to discharge a single projectile per trigger pull or not, s.12 - grandfathered individuals possessed before 1978 can possess automatics
Restricted Firearm (3)
1 - Hand gun that is not prohibited
2 - A firearm that is not prohibited, barrel less than 18.5 inches AND capable of discharging center-fire ammo in semi automatic fashion
3 - A firearm reduced to a length less then 26 inches by folding, telescoping or otherwise
All handguns are either prohibited or restricted
Non-Restricted Firearms (1)
1 - Means firearm that is neither restricted or prohibited (Hunting Rifle)
Firearm Act
s. 19(1)
States that you must have a valid “Authorization to Transport” to transport ANY/ALL restricted or prohibited firearms for:
- target practice, changing residences, gun shows, registration/repair, transportation to any boarder
Non-Firearms
- Barrelled weapon not designed to discharge shot/bullet/projectile (Airgun/pellet)
- devices intended for signalling/distress/blank firing/industrial use (nail gun, flare gun - unless used as weapon)
- shooting devices designed for domestic slaughter
- Antique firearm - before 1898, not designed for rim or centre fire
Prohibited Devices
Any component or part of a weapon, or any accessory for use with a weapon that is prescribed to be a prohibited device (device converting to full auto, igniting rounds, armour piercing rounds)
- handgun barrel equal or less then 4 inches, does not include for sporting purposes
- silencer
- extended mag
- replica firearm
Center Fire vs Rim Fire
Center fire = visible primer
Rim fire = flat base
Cartridge Magazine (Prohibited)
A - is capable of containing more then 5 cartridges for semi auto centre fire rifle
B - is capable of containing more then 10 cartridges for semi automatic handgun - does not include rim fire (22 bullets)
Imitation Firearm
Means anything that imitates a firearm and includes a replica - dummy/airsoft
Replica Firearm
means any device designed to exactly resemble a firearm, but does not include ones that resemble antique firearms
Transporting NON RESTRICTED firearms
MUST be unloaded
AND
if in unattended in a car - in the trunk or out of view
Transporting REGISTERED or PROHIBITED firearms
MUST be unloaded, rendered inoperable by locking device
AND
in a locked/secured container
