Fire Protection Flashcards
When a fire is detected, which lights are illuminated
The associated fire handle and the master warning lights
What does the fire protection system provide
– Engine fire detection
– Engine fire extinguishing
– Continuous Built-In Tests to detect internal faults.
Which valves close when you pull the engine fire handles
– the engine fuel shutoff valve;
– the engine hydraulic shutoff valves and;
– the engine bleed air shutoff valve
What is the power source for the fire detection system
– Engine fire detection: MAU 1 (DC ESS BUS 1) and MAU 3 (DC ESS BUS 2)
What is the power source for fire extinguishing
– Engine fire extinguishing:
HOT BATT BUS 1 and HOT BATT BUS 2
How many loops monitor the fire detection system
2
What is the power source for APU fire detection
– APU fire detection: MAU 1 (DC ESS BUS 1) and MAU 3 (DC ESS BUS 2).
What is the power source for APU fire extinguishing
– APU fire extinguishing:
DC ESS BUS 2.
How many loops are in the APU fire detection system
2
Which lights illuminate when an APU fire is detected
– the red stripped bar of the APU emergency stop button illuminates;
– the master WARNING lights illuminate
What happens when the APU FIRE EXTINGUISHER button is pressed
– discharges the APU fire bottle.
– shuts down the APU through the APU FADEC.
– closes the APU fuel shutoff valve (SOV).
– displays an EICAS ADVISORY message APU FIREX BTL DISCH
How many fire bottles are installed for the APU
1
What happens In the case of fire and 1 min has passed without APU EMER STOP pushbutton has been pressed
the APU fire extinguisher pushbutton illuminates
When will the APU shut down on the ground for fire reasons
10 seconds after a fire is present
How many smoke detectors in the forward cargo
3
How many smoke detectors in the aft cargo
2
What happens automatically when smoke is detected in the forward cargo
The air circulation fan automatically turns off
The ventilation outflow valve closes
The FWD fire extinguishing bottle is armed
What happens automatically when smoke is detected in the aft cargo bay
– The AFT fire extinguishing bottle is armed.
What is the Cargo Fire Extinguishing System is comprised of
1 high-rate bottle
1 low-rate bottle
Both bottles are located in the center avionics bay and can be discharged to either cargo bay
After the annunciation of smoke detection in the cargo compartment, pressing the associated cargo compartment button causes:
– the high-rate fire-extinguishing bottle to discharge immediately into the selected cargo compartment.
– the EICAS ADVISORY message CRG FIREX HI DISCH to display.
One minute later, the second fire-extinguishing bottle discharges automatically if in flight
How long does the low-rate bottle take to discharge and how long does the airplane have for a diversion
75 mins / 60 mins for diversion
Will the low-rate cargo bottle discharge automatically on the ground
No, crew must press the button once
How does the crew discharge the high-rate bottle if there isn’t a smoke warning? The low-rate?
Push the respective cargo fire extinguisher button twice within 2 mins.
The low rate will discharge automatically after 1 min if in flight.
To discharge the low-rate after the high-rate bottle while on the ground, push the button once.
What happens if smoke is detected in either lav
– the master WARNING lights illuminate.
– the EICAS WARNING message LAV SMOKE is displayed.
– in the lavatory where the smoke has been detected an alarm sounds and the smoke detector light comes on.
– a flashing orange light on the respective attendant lights panel (rainbow lights) illuminates
How are the lav fire extinguishers activated
Automatically when the temp reaches a certain temperature
Where are the lav fire extinguishers located
In the waste continer
What is the caution to keep in mind when pressing the fire detection test button
The APU will shut down if the button is pressed for 10 sec
